Tropica Fern fuzzy brown things?

I am not that concerned about this as the tropica fern in my 10 gal community tank is still growing new leaves, but some of the largest/oldest leaves sprouted fuzzy brown stringy things. Are these roots or something? They don't connect to the ground, just the leaves. I'm curious what they are.

It's roots forming for a new plant that is growing off the old dying leafs. There will be some leaves popping up soon!
