Hi,

I want a heavily planted tank and I am finding it difficult to understand why some of my plants aren't doing as well as I expect.

Some of my plants are doing well; others however lose leaves regularly and have holes in. The hygrophilia plant seems to be the one which I expected to flourish but isn't doing very well.

I have my AquaTropic LED Bright White Lighting System (maidenhead aquatics) on for 10 hours a day.

I EI dose fertiliser every day apart from Saturday. I only started using this fertiliser a few weeks ago.

I have a co2 diffuser which I have on for 10 hours a day.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thank you,

Dave

You need to give it more time.

The surface on the left side looks rather still and I can see faint protein film. You need to increase your surface agitation and perform more water changes. At this point 50% twice a week. Also, those ferts look like a UK brand. If you are in the UK, add some epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) UK tap water is very low in magnesium even in the harder water areas where the hardness is mostly made up of calcium carbonate.

Edit: I can see now they include magnesium sulphate in this brand.

Do as above, keep water clear, feed little, continue to dose.

Give it time. Some things have died out in my tank, and some do really good. I get more of the ones that do good. Your tank looks beautiful, keep doing what you as doing. Some plants I recommend are amazon sword and hornwort. :)
