I was just wondering if it would be beneficial or harmful to have a UV sterilizer on my 40 gallon planted tank to help with the algae and what not. Also, what would be the best CO2 injector to put on my tank? Right now I have a hagen nutrifin and I would like to get one thats better rather than having 2 of those on my tank.

I use a UV sterilizer on my planted tank, running it only during lights out, and haven't had any problems. Some claim UV can oxidize trace elements so I dose first thing in the morning, right after the UV shuts off, just in case it's true.

As far as CO2, you should consider a pressurized CO2 system for your tank. There's a sticky here on the Planted Tanks forum that describes them well.
