Water lettuce & water hyacinth in an aquarium

Has anyone ever had any luck growing water lettuce & water hyacinth in an aquarium?? Ive been trying to keep them alive in my 50 gal tank for a few weeks now and im having NO luck!!! I love the look of the different floating roots! My other aquatic plants are doing ok and i fertilize them regularly. Any suggestions???

I keep water lettuce just fine under t5ho lighting, it doesn't stay in anything less, though. Also, it stays small in the aquarium, but if I put it outside in the pond it gets very large.
