Water smells like cut grass. Normal?

I have a 29G planted tank that has been going for 6 months now. I've noticed lately that if I smell the water, especially near the filter return, I smell something similar to the smell of wet, freshly cut grass. It's not overpowering or anything. However, I smell it very strongly when I clean my filter and squeeze out the sponges. Is that the normal "earthy" smell that people describe? Is it just the mulm and detritus from the plants?
