Water sprite, urgent question

So my 4 water sprite came today. Far too large for my tank and need to be trimmed, but I'd be losing the roots. I know some plants can successfully grow roots from the stem even when planted without roots. What should I do?

Yeah, its fine. I keep cutting the top out of mine in my 40 and moving the top over to my 125... they grow roots after a few days
