Hello mates,

I am in the US Air Force getting ready to move to the UK. I have a 75g drilled tank with all the bells and whistles. I am looking for advice. My man concern is everything I own is running 110v do you guys think I would be ok to run all my equip. on a couple of 3000 watt transformers or what else you might think could work. Thanks Bruce

Hydor wavemaker 2 with 2 k3 powerheads
K5 powerhead
2 300 watt stealth heaters
6 54watt t5 lights

Hi
Firstly , Good luck with your move. Where in the U.K are you moving too?

Ok I'm guessing you could get a transformer to run your gear, but I would be concerned about the transformer overheating with constant use, and cutting out! Also transformers have a tendency to buzz after a while. If its possible to do so I would sell what you can in the U.S and buy new/ secondhand gear here in the U.K Then you don't have to worry about it.

Will have a look and see what transformers are available and post back

Try
Newmarket-transformers.co.uk
They seem to specialise in the needs of U.S serviceman who want to run U.S gear in the U.K. You would be best to email them to get the specifications correct. There is some technical details on the site but I don't really understand it.

From what I read you get a transformer with 2 U.S sockets for about £50 but not sure if from either sockets you would be able to run a 4 way extension. So best to ask .

Hope this helps.

Dan,

Thanks for the quick reply! My wife and will be moving to the Mildenhall area. We are super excited to see what the UK has to offer for the aquarium hobby besides higher prices j/k :).

Looks like we have decided to store all of our US equipment, and just go with a second hand UK system...I am thinking about a planted guppy tank...and if the rumors are true and we can live on the Air Force base (110v) then I will be breaking out the reef!!!

That transformer site is exactly what we were looking but we are going to err on the side caution like you suggested!

Ok my AA mates in the UK! Where is the best place to get base rock, live rock, sand, equipment for my saltwater set-up? I have read your thread on pets at home and maidenhead...what online retailers do you use? LFS? I will be living near Mildenhall and Lakenheath bases. Thanks for your time. Bruce

seapets aint to bad or the more obvious one is ebay but the uk dont have a big of fish fan club like the states thats why its more expensive over here
