I feel your pain there aren't many about most shops such as Shirley aquatics have the odd tank with a few yellow labs but nothing very exciting.

There are a couple of better places but i think the best one for malawis is the maidenhead aquatics in Earlswood. Its not amazing but the fish are always good quality when I've been and it seems well looked after but it might be a bit of a trip though if don't live near it (it's off junction 3 of the m42)

Littleheath In bromsgrove specialised in malawis for a while but they seemed to have lost interest in them recently which is a shame. Oh and if your willing to go a bit (lot) further aqua-jardin in gloucester has recently put in twentyish tanks of malawis including a load of nice peacocks that you don't tend to see around very much. But you would need to be really keen to do the hundred mile round trip! (I work down there so it quite good for me!)

What shops do you normally go to? Maybe you've been to some that I haven't found yet!

Thank for the info Widen nice one dude i have been in talks with littleheath and its a no go they can only get one of my fish from a list of thirty and when i went to Shirley they only had a few
In talks with midland aquatic now in bromsgrove as they are wholesalers waiting to see what they can do for me as i want 30 single different fish so fingers crossed if not i will give aqua jardin a ring if they have what i want i will get down there as its not that far from me
Im J4 M5 so not too bad whats the post code of the one in Earlswood
Nice one for the info dude

30 different malawis! No wonder you are looking around for more shops! are these a specific thirty or any thirty? I'm sure a lot will be available but you might have to wait for some of them to come along. it sounds like a good project anyway!

For earlswood it b94 5ju it's in a garden centre called earlswood nurseries. There is another maidenhead aquatics in shirley that's worth a visit in notcutts garden centre (not sure on spelling) it's on the same road as shirley aquatics by the supermarket.

BTW Make sure you quarantine any fish from littleheath (or from anywhere tbh) if you do end up getting some from there I've had a bad experience the last time I got some from there and it wiped out half my fish! I was impatient and paid the price!

I live off junction 4 as well! Have you found Any other decent shops in the area? Or a bit further? I think there must be some around Worcester but I've not had the motivation yet to look that far.

Well i have a specific thirty i want so i have made a list up , print it off and leave it with the fish store lol . I know i may have to wait for some of them as 5 maybe very rare

Nice one for that post code soon as i can i will get over there same goes for notcutts i now of a few in Worcester but i dont think they are the kinda lfs that would have cichlids of any sort but i may try them if im in the area so i will let you know if they have , have you tried Barnett Hill Garden Centre thats pretty good they had about five in the last time i went and its not far from us about 8 mile

As for quarantine that might be hard as i dont have a spare tank so im just gonna have to keep my fingers crossed on that one

So what area do you live in then im in Rubery/Rednal/Frankley thats madness we live in the same area and all from a world wide site lmao

wow! I doubt any one place will have the thirty you want especially if you

Coincidentally I heard about barnett hill a couple of weeks ago but my satnav/google said it was about two miles up the road from where it is and I couldn't find it, I just put the post code in and it found I straight away, I'll have to try it out cheers!

I found this link to a place in nottingham which apparently only does malawis they might be worth a call as well

http://www.midlandsmalawis.co.uk/

It sounds like it might bit a lot of work to get all thirty but i bet it will be worth it when you get them! any chance you can put the list on here? I might get inspired, I'm already on the brink of getting an upgrade that I can't afford even though I've only had my current tank around a year or so.

I tried barnett hill but google and my both sent me about two miles up the road so I didn't find it. Cheers for the post code I just put it in and it went straight to it I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend!

I spotted a Malawi specialist in Nottingham that might be worth a ring, here's a link to there website:

http://www.midlandsmalawis.co.uk

Nottingham is a bit far but you know you'll be making the trip if they have the last one you need!

I live in longbridge by Kalamazoo. Its quite a coincidence considering that 90% of people on here are Americans.

Its not bad to be honest they to have my list just waiting to here from them , i also have heard of midlands malawis just sent then a mail so see what comes back

Something weird seems to of happened to my last reply that's not the whole message! I wonder if the rest will pop up soon?!

Anyway I also said that I live in longbridge near Kalamazoo it is a small world most people on here are American from what I've seen.

And is there any chance of you putting your list on here? I am thinking about an upgrade myself at some point. Your list might give me the bit of inspiration I need! You never know someone else from around here might have some of them for sale.

Sure no problem get the list up over the next few days for you , hope it dose help you out lol and if someone around this area has some for sale even better but i carnt see it as not many people keep cichlids not sure why but i love them IMO the best fish to keep

Its true a small world your five mins from me i bet we went to the same school lol if you have grown up round here

I hope for your sake that you didn't go to my school, I went to shenley court! I'm guessing you went to colmers or gannow then living around rubery?

Cheers I look forward to seeing your picks, I might pay Barnett hill a visit tomorrow as it's payday and i want a canister filter, my crappy internal filters aren't doing the business and take up precious room in my 125 litre tank! I'll let you know if i spot any interesting malawis there.

You guessed right colmers lol

As for your filter go to all pond solutions they have very good externals that where i got mine from it pumps 2000 lph for £75 go check them out and save money my friend let me know what you think

Cool please do let me know about barnett hill do me a favour lol ask Richard how my fish list is coming along lmao

Oh they also do internal filters to that turn 1850 lph for £30 im getting the power head think its £18 and in gonna make my own filter for it that way i can pick my own media

Colmers! I'm sorry to here that mate! maybe you do wish you had gone to my school after all! Only joking Lol

Cheers for the tip for that site they ate cheap I had a look, I'm not sure that i would need the 2000 ltr/hr unit, it would probably make quite strong current in my tank. I had a look at the reviews for the smaller ones and one bloke said it makes a bit of noise. Since my tank is in my bedroom so that would be a problem. I'm going to have a look around some shops and see if they have any offers on the well known brand filters maybe I can get a bit of money off they can't be selling many of them!

I'm impressed your making your own is it going to be external? Im not confident enough to try to make one, knowing me I would mess it up and flood the place!

No problem hope you get one nice and cheap as they cost a **** of a lot i must say mine is quiat and in well impressed , no mate its just an internal filter in making from a power head

Let me know how you get on mate

I have done the tour of local shops and I've ended up going for an aquamanta efx 200 it is Maidenhead aquatics own brand i think i haven't seen them anywhere else. it has a 800 ltr/hr flow rate I've set it up and is quiet and working well so hopefully that will be enough.

I paid £70 for it which is quite pricey compared with the ones you suggested, I think I probably should of got one from the website but I liked being able to have a talk through my options and a look through what it came with before I bought it. And I'm too impatient to wait any longer for delivery off the Internet especially with the long weekend coming up.

Oh and btw earlswood are winding down their stock to have a big refurb on there filter system so there isn't much in there. I went to barnett hill as well its not too bad but it's expensive £9 pound each for small and quite common malawis!

I change my mind on whether I want to go for Africans, normally Malawi but not always, or a big marine tank. Marine is more effort but there are some really good fish and decent coral looks really good but having said that I have one of each now and I prefer my malawis. I guess I'll decide at the last minute when I get a new tank.

I like the look of your list, there's a few I haven't heard of before, I couldn't even find a picture of red top ice whites did you mean blue?

Good decision not to have any auratus in there, mine annoys the **** out of me, it's the most aggressive fish in the tank. I've heard red zebra are really aggressive as well, are cherry red zebra the same? Your tank size will help you out with aggression though.

lol yes blue oooooppps as for the auratus not really my cup of tea reds can be quite aggressive so i have read too but they look stunning so im willing to take the risk

Just to let you know mate found another maidenhead aquatics at blooms garden centre worcester its on the A38 and theirs an aquatic centre 5 miles before it at fernel heath on the right hand side
