I've noticed there a few regular users from calgary on here. What are the best shops to visit while I'm out there on business?

I'm going to move this to the Canadian forum. If you check the thread entitled Calgary shop updates (something like that), you will get an idea of the best shops and what they carry.

Do check the shop updates....and feel free to drop us a line (e-mail, PM), and mebbe we can meet for coffee and fish shopping whilst you are in town.

This particular Big Al's is very expensive for equipment, and notorious for having really poor-quality fish...the Edmonton franchise, on the other hand, is quite good.

Ocean
Centre St., and 25th Ave. NW

Wai's Aquarium,
Bay 4, 222, 16th Avenue NE

Wai's is exclusively marine, and Ocean's nearly so. Ocean's has some really impressive livestock and live rock. Danny Wai of Wai's may have some of the worst customer relations skills on the planet, but he gets in stuff that no-one else does...well worth a look.

Golds Aquarium
Bay J, 4710 17th Ave. S.E

Best dry stock prices in the city, and top-quality fish at great prices (although about 60% cichlids). Gold is closed on all Thursdays. Gold is beside the bingo hall, and can be easy to miss if you just drive by.

petland
Crowfoot 40 Crowfoot Terrace N.W.
Market mall 3625 Shaganappi Trail N.W.
Sunridge 3363 26th Ave N.E.
Westhills 290 Stewart Green S.W.
Shawnessy town centre 580-303 Shawville Blvd S.W.
Macleod 9309 MacLeod Trail S.W.
South Trail 4300 4915 130 AVE SE 2578590
Coventry Hills 323 130 Country village Rd NE 2264045

If you do not have a lot of time, skip the Petlands...only the Westhills branch has a decent fishroom, and it is closed until late March. Drystock at the Petlands is the priciest in the city. None of the Petlands stock any marine fish.

Pisces Pet Emporium 5220 4st NE

Best drystock and plant selection in town, decent prices, especially if you get the aquarium society discount.

As I mentioned in my previous post, add Riverfront Aquariums (largest fish and reptile store West of Ontario), Franco's, Chum's, and Tanks Alot to that list....all four are well worth the visit.

is tanks alot anygood? like how are their prices? cause I'm looking at getting a bigger tank and I live towards the NW and the only real fishplaces anywhere near where I live are
petcetera (so far the cheapest tanks I've found)
Walmart (meh prices)
and Petland (way mucho pricey)

Tanks Alot is good, and their prices are good, but they specialise in African cichlids, and they are fairly far SW (Heritage and Elbow).....I live in Mount Pleasant (NW, close to SAIT) and Golds is actually closer to me, with better prices, particularly on tanks (nobody in town beats their tank prices...its worth the trip.). How big of a tank are you after? There are some incredible deals in the Bargain Finder lately.

hmm should check out the bargan finder, but I'm moving soon so I'm not in a big hurry, when I get into my new place should be worth a look def. I'm looking for something that will fit my bala comftorably and maybe enough room to get some other "bigger" fish I don't know yet though, my shark is the main reason I'm looking.
