Changing filter cartridge

How often should I change filter cartridge. Water is clear and all water tests are fine. Have one small parrot fish in 38 gallon tank

When it's literally falling apart! Other than that just rinse with tank water. Those established filter cartridges are full of BB and it's like gold in this hobby.

I agree, reuse them until there is nothing left. Save your money for other stuff.

Oh and if you need to replace, put the new cartridge in front of the old one for a few weeks so the BB from the old seeds the new. Otherwise you could set off a mini-cycle.
