How to breed beta fish

I've heard that you should only have one beta but what if I wanted to get a male and a female would that be okay

Have done this once or twice by allowing the male to build a bubble nest and then introducing a female I thought was ready. Monitor. Probably a lot better info out there now, this was a long time ago. For the young ones I picked up some special food from the lfs. The lfs and friends took some. I do recall I thought it was pretty amazing to watch.

Edit - I should add I had several tanks going so fish could be moved around. I'm not sure how they would go in a small tank permanently.
