I am just curious to know if anyone runs a tank without live rock. I was actually wondering if its possible to keep enough bacteria built up without it.

I am getting rock for both my tanks. I was just wondering really.

Yes, but all rock basically becomes lr overtime. Of course you need to have plenty of filtration. This is basically what a fo tank is. I started with just coral skeletons and base rock and eventually I did seed it with some lr.

HTH,

How much filtration would it take? I have a ton of filters...hmmm I could try my 29 gallon like this.

The price of liverock has tapped my funds. I just ordered 40lbs from lr.com but had to cancel it since they are diving this week. Gonna have to order when I know I'll be around to pick it up.

The more filtration the better. Preferably a protien skimmer as well. I would fo with some sort of HOB and a canister. On my 75 I am using a CPR BAK PAK II and a 350 Mag.
