I have a an aquarium with fish, hermit crabs and a Nassarius. I noticed that some basic test kits come with nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and pH and others that also include alkalinity. Is alkalinity something that will affect fish health that I should test?

It's not as important to a FOWLR tank, when you get into reefs and corals it becomes an important measurement. As long as you are doing your weekly/bi-weekly PWCs it should stay in acceptable levels.
