can i start my 35 gallon tank without external filter i have a top filter attached to my tank can it works beside the skimmer ???
because my pet store told me you can't start a saltwater aquarium without a canister ....

Yes you can use hob filters. Especially if you have skimmers. Just make sure it's rated for over your tank size. Your fish store wants your money.
