Fish Only Tank with Live Rock-skimmer or No skimmer

Fish only tanks with live rock. Which do you choose? Skimmer a must?

I chose optional. I don't think that is as cut and dry as yes or no, being there are so many variables involved. The smaller the tank, the easier to control DOC via simple water change or planted refugium. In much larger systems though, a skimmer would be a great addition in a moderate to highly stocked tank.
