How to cycle properly

Hi just want to ask how to do a proper cyle and how long? I just set up my 15gal FOWLR 3days ago and i just follow everything that i read on the net i bought a live rock and sands but the LR doesnt smells good and LFS told me its normal so i set up my tank but after two days the smell of the water is also not good but the water is crystal clear so i check the ammonia level and it sky rocket to the max. What should i do ? Is it normal do i have to wait for more few weeks or do i need to do some immidiate actions?
