LFS artificial coral OK?

I will be buliding my first SW tank soon and have begun the planning stages after months of book reading. 1 thing I plan on is artificial coral with live sand or crushed coral. My question here is, is it OK to buy the artificial corals they sell at the LFS or Petsmart? or should I just buy the inserts like at Instantreef.com or those types of sites? I will be installing a HOB skimmer, canister filter, LED lighting, power heads, heater etc. This will be a 55 gallon corner tank. Any comments on this setup will be much appreciated.

Y dont u just get LR? IMO it looks better and is better filtration.

do you only plan on having fish? if so then this is a fine setup.

Yes, I will only have fish no coral/reef and I did think about putting a rock or 2 of live rock to help out the filtration system a bit.
