Is $12 of pound too much for Live rock?

I usually see it for 3.99 to about 7.99 for the really super nice stuff. 12 bucks sounds absurd.

I wouldn't pay that. You can order online and get it cheaper than that even with shipping.

2$ a pound but its dead rock but its a great site I have 3-4 rocks in my tank that weigh 6-8 pounds very cheap and give you all sorts of shapes and sizes

Where are you located? Most of my LFS sell for $6-9 lb, but I see it listed on Craigslist for half that. If that is not an option, I would buy regular "dead" rock and then try to get a couple pieces of rubble with coralline. That will eventually spread. My LFS sells small pieces (golf ball sized ) that break off their big stuff for $1 each. $12 is ridiculous.

If your in los Angeles i know a place 1.70 a lb purple for 3.99

There are probably a few places in Los Angeles in that ballpark price. I know a guy in Compton that has great coral and fish prices too.
