Hi. I just started a FOWLR tank that I'm thinking I may eventually convert to a full reef tank in the future. I started with a crushed coral substrate, which some told me was great to do and some have told me was not so good. What should be used for the substrate in this case? I'm about 3 days into the cycling process with live rock. Also, when I put part of the live rock in, I made a batch of salt water from tap water to rinse it in before I put it in the tank not thinking that was probably not the best thing to do. Did I kill all the life on the rock doing this because I used tap?

i dont think u would have killed it all... unless the water filtration in yor area is know to have high amount of chlorine or such

Tap water is ok. In the long run you may get a build up of nuisance algae. Ro/di water is much better. Check out stores that sell ro/di water from machines. Some lfs carry it as well.
