Nitrates rising

My nitrates have gone up from pretty much zero to around 5 or so in the last week or two. I guess it's probably time to get rid of the bio-balls but I'm assuming I shouldn't just remove them all at once. I'm reading and trying to figure out how I want to build my fuge. I changed from cc to a DSB several weeks ago and have around 120lbs LR and another 40 or so of base rock so should I just remove like 1/4 of my bio balls every week or what?

Well it was fish only for the first several months and I had no idea that bio balls were bad for a reef tank. I've recently learned that bio balls are not god for a reef tank, I just added my first coral last week.
