PURIGEN QUESTION

Does anybody have a good idea where I can place my purigen mesh bag? I currently have it in my emperor 400 where the media goes, but I feel that it is not getting enough water flow thru it.

When I run it in my 29 gallon FOWLR tank I run it in my emporer. I put it behind the blue GAC pad. I think it does fine there.

IME Purigen works best in canisters which allows very little water to flow around the media and forces it to go through the media.

It will work in HOB filters or sumps as well but if not blocking the water flow to force it through the media then it won't be as effective. Are you using one 100ml bag in your 400? I'd use 1-2 bags in each of your 4oz media containers or else the water will just go where there is least resistance.

Real quick question on recharging the purigen. I used the 50/50 bleach/water and it didn't seem to get it back to white, is that still ok?

Did you let it dry out before using again? If exposed to air it will brown slightly but still work fine.

Mine has always been fairly white after recharging but not bright white like it was when first used. After recharging and soaking in Prime I let it sit in ro/di water till it's time to recharge the other ones.

Mine is not too far off white. I kind of figured it would not be totally white. I just wanted to make sure.

Still working as long I assume. I haven't noticed any change myself after recharging and it still works like "new" even it the color is more ivory then white.

Is it ok to "pack the back of it" to make sure the water goes thru it?

I pack 3 into my Mag 350 canister to ensure water goes through it and it hasn't ever been a problem. The more you use the longer it lasts IME. I still clean my canister weekly to keep waste from building up and fouling the tank and would have some kind of pre-filter media before the Purigen to catch waste and clean weekly.

Even "packed in" I've never had flow issues with them in for months at a time. I typically swap out new bags every 3-4 months when regenerating the used ones.

no3 is always at 0 ppm and I test weekly to verify. The media will darken over time as it's absorbing the excess nutrients out of the water.
