Should I be running a Diatom XL Filter while cycling?

I am in the process of cycling my 77 gal tank. What I was wondering is, should I be running my Diatom XL Filter? Will this impede the bacteria growth in anyway?

how big is your tank?

i was looking at your gallery and it looks to me that if you are doing more than a fowlr tank than you need ALOT more live rock.

yes, ill be adding rock to it all the time. That was just what i put in there to help with the cycle. (that rock was $200!)
