Sump configuration/set up

WHats the best way to set up my sump for my 90 gallon reef any input would rock thanks all I know is I need a pump and a protean skimmer and one section for a biofiliter like plants and what not

Is there a certain alge that is better then others?

I was thinking of like an inch of live sand 1 or 2 live rocks with some type of plant/micro algae. Will I also need to mount a light?

I personally wouldn't do sand in a refugium. Also you'd be better served to break up the live rock into smaller pieces, more surface area
