Dont buy or deal with filterman40
Speaking from firsthand dealings this person will have u pay via paypal then come up with every excuse not to send the product I have done my part to let u know it is on u if u deal with him I sent him money for a chiller for my reef tank and it has been 3 weeks and will not send it and will not return my money so don't do it he is a scam

Call paypal and dispute the transaction. Unless you sent it as a gift then there's nothing you can do.

I was not sure if I should of done it cuz of the scams on the web but he said all the right stuff to make me feel comfortable doing it I guess I learns my lesson looks like I am going to stay with online stores and not private sellers

i just stick to craigslist and i only get something i can meet up with someone and buy instead of trusting anybody. to many good ppl have been screwed over, and i dont wanna risk it. sure i lose some good deals, but whatever. im not in a race, ill get what comes my way slowly but surely

I do a lot of online transactions and have only been burned once. It was with an actual online storefront that gave me the runaround on some fish they were supposed to ship.
Either way, the best recourse is to file a dispute with Paypal, it really takes care of its customers.
Otherwise you are stuck buying local and paying through the nose for stuff since it has to go through a middleman.

Paypal is sometimes helpful, but if it's more than $100 to anyone I haven't dealt with before I use a credit card through paypal. I got scammed a few years ago (along with a number of other folks) on a Fluval FX5 deal. Filed a dispute w/paypal, but the scammer had already withdrawn the funds, so they said they'd collect if/when possible in the future. I then called my credit card and explained it, and they did a chargeback to paypal, so I didn't actually pay the bill or lose the $$.
Overall though, one scammer out of dozens (or more) things bought online isn't bad odds.

I agree, I've had nothing but good results dealing with people that have good track records also. It's not a foolproof method by any means, but it works for me. I go by the rule that if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

Well it was a great deal on a used chiller and I know not everyone is out there scamming on people but that was my first private seller and I won't do that again I will deal locally and meet with people but I know there are chances that that can go wrong as well bit u have better odds.... it just left a bad first impreshon and I am sure this type of thing is a lot less on here also

I agree with what Todd and Jeta have said. I purchase just about everything online. The whole caveat emptor thing was never as true as it seems to be in a world gone online. Before I purchase from someone new, I do a bit of research. Join date, types of posting, feedback, google, ebay, aquabid, etc. Reputable sellers leave their marks and are fairly easy to identify once you look.
As for filterman40, I know nothing about him other than that he's been a member here for less than a month with a scattering of posts. One of which seems to have our pics attached as his plants being offered. Off to report the post. If these are in fact our pics, this guy needs to be banned.
Update: Yep, they were our pics and he used them the same day that he signed up for the site. What a total dirtbag move. Talking to you filter"man".

If you used a credit card on paypal youre covered, even if paypal tries to say they cant help or there is no money to refund. if paypal gives you that story then for sure file a chargeback with your CC. Personal transactionsa re covered as long as you didn't send it as a "gift" when you paid him.
I think its a scummy thing to do personally but I've never been on the losing side using paypal and a CC.
Good luck

This is disgusting i cant believe some one would do that! It's a pity there's not a better way of removing scumbags like that so they can't start another account!

Don't underestimate the staff here. They go through a lot of work behind the scenes with stuff like this. I have faith. Plus, there's always karma for filterman in the future.

The IP address of the computer is what's used to ban someone. As long as the ban is in effect no one using that IP address will be able to access the site.

Well that is good to know so that makes me feel better that he will have a harder chance of scanning another person
