Yes a snail would be great!

It's biofilm that's what it is and guess what! Snails and shrimplove to eat biofilm. So I wood recommend if you don't like the looks of I get a snail but be warned the snail will turn into many snails cause they also can reproduce asexually so ya. Also the biofilm is helpful not harmful it just looks unclean so it's up to you.
 
looks algae to me. I used to have one Siamese in my 6gal tank to keep everything clean.
 
A Nerite snail will not cause a population explosion. A female might lay tiny eggs that look like a sesame seed though. FW will not hatch, needs brackish.
