Is this a saltwater or freshwater aquarium?
- Freshwater aquariums don't usually benefit from protein skimmer but you should definitely upgrade the filter.
- Saltwater aquariums can have protein skimmers but should still have good filtration because protein skimmers don't do any removing of ammonia or nitrite and I don't think Live rock alone is enough.
