I boil the driftwood and if you use a buffer I don't see any issues DW.
BUT... He does make valid points and it's really a mute issue as I believe driftwood will interfere with your theme.
Go with natural grey rock.

I know you don't get good NY Bagels in Miami. Trust me, I've been EVERYWHERE trying to find them. Offerdahls came close until my friend from NY brought some down. Oh well
