Hello from the Desert of Arizona

Hi
I am a 63 year old retired computer tech. I had a saltwater and freshwater tank in the 80's. Got involved with motorcycles and somehow got out of the Aquariums I just decided it's time to get back. So I am in the market for a 55 gal to set up as FW then maybe jiump into a saltwater tank. I love the SW fishes so beautiful.
Thanks for a great forum, what a wonderful way for folks to learn. I can remember the learning was from books and mistakes when I did this before.
Thanks again
Loren

Hi there! And welcome from a fellow Arizonan! I love saltie fish too, but I don't have the focus to keep up with the requirements. Maybe after I get into a settled career. . .

I have a question? I keep my AC about 79 deg. in the summer and I am thinking it might be best to set up the tank as close to a vent for the AC as possible just to try to avoid the higher temps of the afternoons in the summer. Also I suspect I should add a fair amount of areation that will also help to cool the tank in the summer. I looked at chillers and kinda got a chill in my wallet.
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Maybe go with tropical/warm water fish? I keep AC at 70-74, but I'm also at live on college campus and don't have to pay an electric bill .

That is how I have mine set up and I have not had a problem with my tank going over 80 in the summer without a chiller, although I also do not have a canopy on mine and my lights are about 10" from the tank ( 6 T-5 light system), and this tank sits close to a outside wall.
