New to the hobby...since being a kid anyway. Still in the cycle process of setting up a 29g community tank. Looking forward to the enjoyment stages and quickly getting tired of looking at an empty tank lol...patience i know.
2 statements I think will help you. They certainly helped me when I started:
If it's done fast it's not been done right.
If it's not broke don't fix it.
I don't mean this literally but about cycling for the first one and equipment for the second. I would spend so much money on new lights, filters and the rest but really I didn't need it. Could have saved so much money. Good luck with your tank and post some pics when it's finished and looks awesome.

I have the tendency to go a bit overboard with things sometimes aswell with the thought of if im going to get it may aswell get the best or money spent now is saved later..thus im running a aquaclear 70 on 29g tank...but im done spending until i can start stocking the fishys! I will have to figure out how to post pics sometime between now and then
