Hi everyone. I just set up my first aquarium about three weeks ago and am already having disease problems. Online research tells me it's ich spots so I've added aquarium salt and purchased ich treatment. The bottle says to remove carbon from the filter during treatment, however this may be up to a few weeks. I don't feel comfortable not having the proper filter in place. Any advice??

Hi and welcome!
You can treat ich with just heat.
Turn the heater up to 86-88F.
Increase aeration.
Leave it there for a week after the last spot is seen.

Is your tank cycled?
If it is only 3 weeks old I'd say you are still cycling which would be stressful for your fish.

Thank you do much, this link is great and I think you saved me from making a few mistakes and adding unnecessary stress to the tank. I'll let you know how it goes.

Do gravel vacs every 2-3 days to remove ich spore from substrate, too.

You definitely do not need meds to tackle ich.
