I'm a newbie

I'm new to the freshwater aquarium world. I have a little one, 4.5 gallon, but have a heater and big charcoal filter & a thermometer. The lone occupant of this is a bright blue male betta named Ozzie. My main problem is recurring brown algae. Hoping to find a solution here!

What type of lighting do you have? Do you have an air stone? What are your water test results?

It's LED lighting in the lid - came with it. I don't have an air stone, what is that? My last water test - 2 days ago - showed the ammonia was a teeny bit high, but everything else was ok.
