Hi, I'm new. When I started this hobby, I got a 10 gallon. Upgraded that to a 20 and here I am now with this 36. I got it hoping to get a pair of blood red parrot cichlids but I'm worried it's too small for them. Some sites say 29+, others say 40 or 55 as the limit. I can't go any bigger! So if anybody can just reassure me that it's okay or stop me now.... And if it isn't okay to get parrots, what should I get? I want fish with personality.
Thanks!

I love my 36g tank - I haven't heard anything horrible about keeping the cichlids, especially if you get a younger pair. Worse comes to worse, you can always get a bigger tank if the fish need it! Good luck, and I vote go for the cichlids!

I've learned the hard way to purchase for full grown stock. Most tend not to upgrade fast enough. These guys grow pretty quick and can exceed 8 inches. For a pair I'd do at least a 55g if no other stock planned, if so 75g.
