New fish owner

Hi! My name is Ivey. I just recently acquired a year old beta fish. For the past year the fish was living in a tank covered in algae. I adopted the fish and after cleaning the tank and after following googles steps I have successfully got him into a clean tank. Then I realized he has algae on his face and fins. After googling ways to take care of this issue I stumbled on this webpage. My goal is to get rid of the algae and then to put gravel and maybe a small plant into the tank.
