New reef aquarium in LA. Suggestions for first life?
Hello fellow fish enthusiasts.
I started up a 10G reef setup with 7lbs live rock and a mixed bottom of live pebble and sand. After cycling the tank for a week with 8 hr/day of light, pink algea had started to spread slowly on the rocks. I added some algea from a friend and a shot of coraline accelerator.
3 weeks later, there's plenty of brown algea, green grassy algea, and they seem to have out competed the pink species.
I'm told that 8hr/day was too much light to begin with. So I'm going to drop it down to 4hr/day and intro hermit crabs and snails to control the algea. Opinions?
As the first life ithe aquarium, I'm thinking of also adding a cleaner shrimp and clown fish. Eventually also a pair of goby and pistol shrimp to shack up together and an anemone for the clown. What are your suggestions?
