My wife bought me a 29 gallon tank I'm going to make into a saltwater tank. I've ordered 50 lbs of live rock, got a 40 lb bag of sand (only plan on making it an inch deep) and various other things including a skimmer. My live rock is "cured" but I know after research, die off is expected. Do I add a cocktail shrimp in the tank with rock, or let the die off on the rock produce the ammonia? I plan on setting up a 10 gallon isolation tank for the new fish when they are added later. Should I use the tank water or some of the live rock and cycle it with fresh water? I have a million other questions for another time.
