Newbie here

Hi all!! Just got back into the world of fish. I have a 40g with a few cichlids and a pleco and what I was told was a pleco but I think it might be a catfish.. I will post a picture of it to see if someone can confim or tell me what it is. I'm in the Houston area.

Well the guy who gave it to me said pleco but when I got him to my tank I was like theres no way that's a pleco....forgot to mention I have a Jack Dempsey. .ill attach a picture of it as well

This is the best I can get..he is quick if he is not under that log. He's a loner just chills in one spot for awhile..non aggressive as I can tell

So is that two fish or one in that picture? It almost looks like a head and the body is somewhere else... My eyes are playing tricks on me!

It's brown with light brown spots and about 5 inches long. Has whiskers like a cat fish and does manage to get suctioned to surfaces.

Oh now I can see him! He's an interesting little fellow! He looks like a catfish of some sort.... I've never seen a Pleco like that. Maybe he's half catfish half Pleco?

Yes he is interesting. The guy who gave me him obviously had no idea what he was...he just said he was a pleco..scooped him up and threw him in the bucket (which he was stuck in the net because he flared his fin and sidefins (?)) He also croaks when hes out of the water...a defense mechanism?? Idk
