Newbie needing advice

Hi there I'm new to this. me and my girlfriend started off with a tropical tank to see if we'd manage to keep any alive, I wasn't to Interested in fish and just wanted to buy loads and a crab to watch the massacre, much to my LFS horror. But women being women left it all to me and now I'm absolutely hooked! I can just sit and stare at my fish I get worried about them if I notice the slightest thing out of place in their daily habits, I now want to progress to a marine tank but I'm a bit put off by all the comments I see about them. For example the ph's and nitrates, ammonias... Where to get live corral from and how do I know it's right for my tank, the amount of equipment that seems to be needed... Is there a simple guide and list of basic essential equipment I need including any salts chemicals etc... Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks guys
