Novice aquarist

I'm new to this hobby, I have an 8gallon Evolve8 starter aquarium. I set it up 4 1/2 weeks ago, so I'm still in the water cycle for it. I have a male beta, 3 ghost shrimp, a mystery snail, and 2 yellow inca snails. Since the whole process of maintaining an aquarium is new to me, I'd hope this site can help me learn more about the most effective ways to keep the habitat healthy. Eventually I'd like to start a salt water aquarium (far in the future...after I have success with the hardy freshwater).

Sounds good, keep an eye on the inverts though, there a lot not sensitive then the beta. Fish keeping is tons of fun
