Preparing for major change

I used to belong to another forum community, AC forum, not sure if this is related? Anyway, I've had my 125g up and running for 10 years with one ornate bichir. He was my buddy and he finally passes yesterday while I was at work. There is also a catfish in there that's been around for about 5 years. He is about 6 inches long, brown with black spots. He is the only resident now. I will be completely overhauling the tank in the next couple months as a planted community tank with co2 etc. Just starting to research options. The tank is/was super stable with little effort but with very little bio load, I will probably loose my bacteria and need to do a fresh start.

As far as filtration. I'm running 2 AC 70 HOB and a Fluval FX6 canister. It's too much I'm sure. I'll probably just run the canister when I redo the tank and ditch the HOB. But that's a discussion for another thread.
