Hello all,

I just moved on to a 20 gal tank from a 10 gal and thought I would try some new fish species. The LFS recommended a couple some dalmation sailfin mollies for me to put in the tank, as it gets settled in and grows some algae.

Well, foolish to listen to the LFS guy. I didn't realize that the mollies prefer brackish water. Is this mandatory to their comfort and survival, or will freshwater be alright?

I really had my heart set on eventually populating the tank with corydoras, which won't do with any sort of brackish set up.

Any advice would be great

:welcome: to AA! We hope you enjoy :)

Unfortunately I can't help with your question. If someone doesn't answer it post in the freshwater section. Good luck

THey dont "need" brackish but perfer hard water. I have a few in my brackish tank and they are doing great. I have also transferred fry to my freshwater tank without problem. Hope this helps!
