Setting up a 75 gallon FW, all advice welcome

After a few years of thoroughly enjoying a 20-gallon tank (community with tetras), my wife and I are taking the proverbial plunge into bigger things. As I write this, I'm gazing at our 75 gallon with a half-dozen fresh swordtails beginning the cycling process. I'm also looking at the other shelf in our basement that's big enough for 150-plus--one day.

We'll needs lots and lots of help and advice. Thanks.

I know the feeling. Just added a 30-gal to my 20-gal and now need another 30-gal to balance the other side of the cabinets

Not sure what a python is in this context but, in fact, I DO have a ball python. It eats rats.
