46 Gallon tank - What filter

I've just bought a new 46 gallon bowfront aquarium for the den (where we watch tv, etc). The tank had a hang on the back filter, but I'm planning on moving to a canister filter. I plan on having guppies and other community fish in the tank....

1) I'm thinking I should get the Fluval 7 series - it seems to be the quietest (at least according to the reviews and writeups). Is that right?
2) If so, is the 307 big enough or do I need the 407 for a 46 gallon?
3) Am I better off with an Eheim or Oase or something else?
