It's been six years since I touched my aquarium, and I'm looking to get it set up again. I'm not even sure what's on the market now for equipment.

It will be a 55-gallon non planted tropical. Need recommendations on lids, filter, heater (maybe inline), and lighting.

Thanks in advance.

I've always approached setting up a tank as the simplest way is the best. I keep several 55 gallon tanks and use bi fold canopy lids, florescent lights from the hardware store, heaters from Tetra and dual sponge filtration with some good air pumps. None of these items will break the bank and work as well as the more expensive stuff.

I prefer to hide most of the filter, so I want a canister filter. Plus my tank is in a place where a HOB won't fit.

The hardware fluorescents seem like a good idea since I'm not going planted.
