55gal LEDs and planted tank

I got one of these from petsmart and tossed aside the hood thinking the 18 total LEDs wouldn't be sufficient for any kind of plants. Any able to verify that? It's my understanding I would need about 90 for it to be effective.

You must have linked the wrong ad. This says it has 45 LEDs per hood.

It may be enough for low light planted tanks, but not enough for more challenging species of plants.

And its definitely not enough for corals.

I posted that because it is similar, but my LEDs are 18 per hood. I got one without the stand and I guess I was discounted LEDs.

I am going to sell that T5HO from the other post and go with T8s. I think they will better fit my needs.

IMHO I would keep the T5HO and just remove bulbs as needed. Based on your other thread and CO2, you then have the capacity to add remove light as you feel necessary.
