I have a bow front 35 gallon. I've got 2 German blue rams 2 gold rams and 2 cory catfish. I currently use a hang on back filter. It does okay but I've been wondering if there's something better I could be using. I've been looking at sponge filters but I have heard some people don't really like them or recommend them for solo use. Would it be a good idea to run one along with my hang on back filter? I wasn't really interested in a canister filter because I don't really have a big tank at the moment and feel it isn't necessary for a 35 gallon. All advice is welcome and appreciated

Why are you thinking you need a different filter? Are you seeing any issues?

If it aint broke, dont fix it would be my advice. You have a very low bioload for your tank size. You dont really need to be overfiltering. Im not sure there would be any benefits to adding another filter.
