What benifits does having an airpump in ur tank have ? Does it help with hardness? , does it keep amonia down? , does it keep ph at a steady level? ....does it help with any of these or Anything else

If your referring to an Air-stone, the bubbles help to agitate the surface which promotes gas exchange. If your filter's producing surface movement then an air-stone is not as critical. However if you have a canister that has a deep output, then the tanks will not exchange as as well.

mostly it's for looks and doesn't provide a whole lot of purpose. As Jcolon said if you have a hob this usually breaks the surface enough to provided you with the benefits of oxygenation and gas exchange. If you have a canister it is useful to provide these as most do not break the surface well.

It has no bearing on PH, ammo or anything like this. I suppose it would effect the PH in a sense that it will help it gas off sooner and reach your true PH(ph from tap to tank are different usually after the water has a chance to gas out) but it won't add any extra effect to the PH.
