Bubble Traps

the water comming from the main tank into the sump will be mixed with some air and create bubbles. If you put a skimmer into the sump, there might be more air bubbles released into the sump. If you construct an bubble trap the bubles are getting taken out of the water and you won't pump water with bubles back into the main tank. Bubbles in the main tank are ugly:(
 
Even with a bubble trap I get some bubbles, not counting powerhead burps. I put a thin layer of filter fluff in the first (downward flow) comparment, which helped. I'll chuck it every week. It ends up being a mechanical filter, as well, which is a plus.
