I have a mature (3 year old) 55 gal tank that is doing nicely. However, after adding filters, powerheads, skimmers, and phosphate reactors the back of the aquarium has little room left and the inside of the tank has more associated pumps, intakes, and outflows that are detracting from the look that I'd really like to have.

I'm considering changing over to a closed loop system with some in-line filtering. Unfortunately I don't have a clue where to start on the design or selection of equipment. I was looking for any suggestions/advice/comments/pictures/drawings/?? that could help in the quest to eliminate a lot of the HOB equipment and return the aquarium to the fishes.

List of current HOB 'stuff':
- Phosphate Reactor (Two Little Fishies)
- Whisper Power Filter (carbon filters only)
- Aqua-C Remora Protein Skimmer
- in-tank heater
- three Maxi-Jet powerheads

I know the protein skimmer will probably have to stay, but losing the rest to something behind or in the stand would look so much better.

Appreciate any thoughts...
