Corals and nitrates

Is it true if you have a larger amount of corals they will somewhat consume nitrates?
 
I believe it depends on type of coral .
Softies and LPS will eat some nitrates while SPS will not tolerate as high a level in the water.
 
I still always try to keep them as low as I can it vary s between 1ppm to 3ppm
when I didn't keep up it went up over 10ppm closer to 20ppm my lps started to die off
, I lost quite a bit this time I'm still working on recovery of the tank , I get too sick at times I just can;t keep up with it .
