You can read my experiences here:

Overall, I think the light is excellent. It makes my Coralife look like a toy by comparison. As one downside, the included bulbs are more setup more for a marine tank than a freshwater. You would likely be replacing the Dual Actinic bulb with something more appropriate for freshwater.

Also, keep in mind that 130w of lighting is a lot for freshwater, are you planning to do CO2 injection as well?

co2 injection, not as yet.....so 130W is alot eh...i was going on some not-fully-understood information i read here once about 2.5W/g or something along those lines...the initial plants i want are micro swords, and some anacharis....would you be kind enough to perhaps suggest another lighting system that would go well with my current setup and future plans?

currently i have a topfin 29G starter tank, that came with pretty much everything....

thanks for all your help, this site rocks...although, it can be troublesome when i spend more time reading this site then actually working :p

**edit

would this be more appropriate?

That would be more approriate for wattage, however the bulb is half actinic and half daylight. This bulb would work much better:

If you want a fixture that already comes with a daylight bulb, check this out.

The bulb temp is approriate, only downside is that the bulb is only 48w, not 55 or 65w :( It would be fine for low -> medium light plants.

With the Satellite fixture, keep in mind that you can switch bulb easily and sell the one you do not want. Or keep the bulb tucked away for a rainy day when you start a marine tank :D

thanks for the info!

what is the purpose of the lunar light? i think i'm looking at them cuz of the coolness factor, more then a need-to-have thing..

i think i'm looking at them cuz of the coolness factor, more then a need-to-have thing..

Do not underestimate the coolness factor of the moonlights. In my marine tank, it is like a whole new world in there when the moonlight is on. I would consider it a must have item, as it makes the tank viewable 24/7 instead of just when the tank light is on. I believe the dim light also helps out some coral and invert life as well. I suppose it is easier to crawl all over the tank when you can see what you are doing :D

In a freshwater tank, the moonlight might not be so exciting without all the inverts running around and corals moving with the current. Still, if you have fish that are nocturnal, or want to watch the fish sleep, it might be a neat addition.

heh, sorry to bother you with all these questions, but i just thought of something...going back to the light i was originally looking at

http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=29621;category_id=1875;pcid1=1843;pcid2=

it does have 2x65W bulbs + 2 moonlites....however, i dont think BOTH the 65W bulbs are on at the same time? if you notice in the description, it says that the fixture has 3 power cords...SO, based on this info, i would assume you could turn each light on seperatly...so in reality, it would only be a 65W bulb during the day...am i correct in assuming this?

so, my next question is (HEHE), i dont need/want the Actinic Lamp bulb, so would there be something else i could replace it with? that would also simulate the "dusk to dawn effect"?

or should i just forget this thing and get something else? :p
